The Company was founded in 1978 under the name of PT Sona Topas Group as a travel agency, providing domestic and international travel services. In line with business development, the Company changed its name to PT Sona Topas in 1981, and then to PT Sona Topas Tourism Industry in 1990. The dynamic growth of the tourism industry prompted the Company to adjust its strategy and expand its business scope.
The Company officially went public on July 21, 1992, through an initial public offering (IPO). 11,500,000 shares were listed and traded on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) under the ticker code SONA. As of December 31, 2025, the Company’s outstanding shares listed on the IDX totaled 662,400,000.
The Company continues to expand its network of outlets at various airports and major tourist destinations across Indonesia. The development of the national tourism sector, growing mobility, and increasing demand for diverse tourism retail products are driving the Company to refine its business model and improve service standards.
Recognizing the need for a comfortable shopping experience among tourists, the Company expanded its business activities into the travel retail store segment through its subsidiaries PT Inti Dufree Promosindo (IDP) and PT Arthamulia Indah (AMI). This expansion received support from DFS, the world’s leading duty-free store network operator operating in 12 countries and is part of Louis Vuitton Moet & Hennessy (LVMH), a global group known as a manufacturer of high-quality luxury products. The Company also expand its convenience goods via PT Karya Prima Unggulan (KPU). In 2025, in line with the company’s vision “To become the leading travel retailer in Indonesia while continually achieving the best growth prospects to all of its shareholders” the business segments were simplified from previously 3 (travel business, duty free, and retail) to 2 (travel business and travel retail).
